Members of Envi-sion began meeting virtually from January. Since then, we have initiated and participated in various projects aimed to spread awareness of environmental issues.
For our first project, the Awareness Poster Project, half of all the members chose a topic or quote they were interested in regarding the environment and designed a square-sized poster. We displayed these posters on our Instagram account, spreading valuable information and awareness of important issues often disregarded. The second half of the members participated in another project, the Awareness Video Project, created a short 10-15 second video where each member described necessary actions one should take to bring positive change and benefit the community. Concomitantly, each one of the Envi-sion writers wrote articles describing actions various countries were taking to tackle environmental issues or explaining environmental complications different countries were challenged with.
Most importantly, Envi-sion decided to participate in a plastic-recyclable project helping an organization called Seoul PP to make better use of leftover plastic. By collecting plastic bottle caps from Envi-sion members and school students and delivering them to Seoul PP in mid-April, Seoul PP will use plastic shredders to create daily, usable supplies. The ENVISION team has recently signed up to be a member of Seoul PP.
Beginning in March, Envi-sion will initiate a new plant project in preparation for Earth Day on April 22 2021. Envi-sion members will be assigned into one of two groups to build their experience on planting eco-friendly plants through two types of methods. The first group would help create a garden within our school community, directly planting fruits and vegetables such as carrots or tomatoes into the existing soil. Not only will this activity enhance students’ understanding and experience in planting but also educate members and students of the benefits plants provide to the environment. In the future, we plan to welcome people outside of this community to contribute to our project and build their own plants to benefit the community and the environment. Another approach, or method, this project can take is to apply the concept of hydroponics and grow air purifying plants in the greenhouse. We will be directly planting the plants using fish tanks and hydroponics, a method used to grow plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water without using any soil. Through this method, the air purifying plants could produce beneficial gases such as oxygen and eliminate toxins present in the air.
